Q. Someone told me that he/she had to pay back part (or all) of their book voucher. Why?
A. Students must attend classes to receive book money. If a student registers for two 5-hour classes, he/she will receive a $100 HOPE book voucher. However, if he/she is a "no-show" in one of the classes, he/she is required to repay $50.
If a degree-seeking student receives a HOPE Book Voucher and withdraws on, or after, the first day of the quarter and a letter grade or "W" is not given the student must repay the HOPE Book Voucher amount. If a student withdraws after the beginning of the quarter, a letter grade or "W" will be given for the course and the student will be required to repay the HOPE Voucher amount. In other words, if the courses are reflected on the academic transcript, the student is entitled to the HOPE Book Voucher.

Q. If I withdraw from school during a quarter, will my financial aid be affected? How?
A. The Pell award is pro-rated based on the number of days into the quarter when the student withdrew divided by the number of days in the quarter. For example, if the student's Pell award is $600 but he/she withdraws 20 days into the quarter and there are 70 days in the quarter then 20 ÷ 70 = 29% of $600 = $174. If this money is not sufficient to pay all tuition, fees, and books purchased against the original Pell award, the student must pay the difference. Withdrawing from school prior to 60% into the quarter is costly. Students receive 100% of their Pell award if the withdrawal date is 60% or more into the quarter.
Any unused HOPE money will be returned to the HOPE program.
