Federal Pell Grants are awarded to students who do not have a four-year degree and are enrolled in a diploma, degree, or eligible certificate program of study. The amount a student receives is dependent upon family income, the length of the program, and the number of credits taken. Full-time enrollment for purposes of Pell is based on 12 quarter hours for a degree program and 240 contact hours for a diploma or certificate program. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and mail to the Federal Processing Center to determine eligibility. {The Title IV School Code for Griffin Technical College is 005621} It takes approximately four weeks to receive the results of this application. Students should be prepared to pay their first quarter fees if sufficient time is not allowed for the necessary processing. All Pell awards will expire at the end of each spring quarter. Students must reapply for Pell prior to spring quarter for uninterrupted Pell aid for the following award year. Students may apply online at fafsa.ed.gov. If you have questions about this application, or for more information on eligibility requirements and the U.S. Department of Education's student aid programs, click on www.ed.gov/studentaid . You can also call 1-800-4FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) seven days a week from 8:00 am through midnight (Eastern Time). TTY users may call 1-800-730-8913. *Learning Support and Special Admit students are not eligible for federal financial aid benefits. *Students who withdraw from the college prior to completing 6 (six) weeks of the quarter will have their Pell award pro-rated. Return of Title IV Funds The Department of Education regulations require the unearned portion of Title IV funds (Pell Grant) be returned if a student withdraws from school before the 60 percent attendance point in the quarter. If the student withdraws before this point, the award will be adjusted. Example: The quarter is 72 days in length. The student withdraws on the 20th day. The student’s Pell Grant award is equal to $825. The award would be adjusted to 20/72 X 825 = $229. (Student’s adjusted Pell Grant award). Griffin Tech must follow the Return of Title IV Funds policy. If all or part of the student’s Title IV aid was disbursed directly to the student, the school must bill the student for the refund. |
