Griffin Technical College Foundation, Inc.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Griffin Technical College Foundation is to promote the cause of technical and adult education at Griffin Technical College by acquiring and administering monetary gifts, grants, and other funds and properties principally from area industries, businesses, individuals, other organizations, as well as faculty, staff, and other friends of Griffin Technical College. Furthermore, our mission shall be to partner with donors to invest in Griffin Technical College to build stronger communities and a better Georgia. The Foundation’s primary efforts shall be directed toward attracting, receiving, investing, managing, and expending gifts and other resources designated for the technical training programs of Griffin Technical College.
History and Purpose of the Griffin Technical College Foundation
The Griffin Technical College Foundation was created in 1989 to help raise resources and friends for the College. The Board of Trustees oversees the Foundation activities and is comprised of members from all of the counties the College serves. The primary responsibilities of the Foundation include raising money for capital expansion, scholarships and books, new instructional equipment purchases, and meeting matching grant challenges. The purpose of the Griffin Technical College Foundation is to receive private gifts, bequests, and donations and to account for, manage, and help appreciate monies or property submitted to the Foundation. The Foundation also exists to promote the positive image and expand awareness of Griffin Technical College. The Foundation's mission, goals, and objectives are consistent with the philosophy, purpose, and strategic plan of the College.
The Griffin Technical College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1989 and organized under Georgia state law to provide guidance and help secure funding for Griffin Technical College. The Foundation is governed by a local board of trustees who represent positive leadership and community influence throughout the College’s six-county service area of Spalding, Butts, Fayette, Lamar, Pike, and Jasper. The Trustees have an expressed interest in the College and a desire to use their influence on behalf of the College, through the Foundation, to develop statewide support for the College. By serving as advisors to the Advancement Division of the College, the Board of Trustees plan and implement resource development activities to improve programs and recognition for Griffin Technical College. The Foundation believes that private funding will ensure, expand, and enhance the high level of technical and occupational training at Griffin Technical College.
Contributions to the Foundation provide funding for capital expansion and improvements, equipment, staff and faculty development, scholarships, and endowments. The Foundation strives to promote Griffin Technical College objectives and to support programs and activities, which include, but are not limited to the following: Campus Expansion As technical programs grow and technology changes, campus facilities require renovation, replacement, or the addition of new structures. Federal and state financial support for capital projects is not always adequate or timely enough to meet the expanding needs of the College. Equipment and Technology Keeping equipment up-to-date in order to provide qualified training for business and industry is a top priority. Griffin Tech works diligently each year to ensure that students have the best training on the latest equipment as requested by area employers. Scholarships Although the HOPE Grant and HOPE Scholarship are available to Georgia residents, the need still arises for emergency scholarships for students financially stressed. Griffin Tech strives to never turn away a person who wants to learn. Adult Literacy Program The adult literacy program offers free basic, general, and specialized-level classes for adults in the areas of reading readiness, mathematics, science, social studies, grammar, and writing skills. Books are provided to students free of charge. These costs are subsidized by the Foundation and other sources so that students can pursue learning without financial concern. Students who complete the specialized level of instruction are ready to take the GED test and may elect to continue their education with postsecondary instruction at Griffin Technical College. Matching Grants More and more, federal and state grants and corporate grants demand that institutions demonstrate commitment to their own requests for funding by raising a percentage (usually 50%) of the funds for projects themselves. This circumstance makes the fundraising efforts of the Foundation even more crucial. Endowments An endowment is a permanent fund established by a donor or group of donors who make an annual award to a Griffin Technical College program, instructor, or scholarship fund. The original gift of $10,000 or more is invested in funds that generate interest income from the principal. This interest continues to provide income to the college into perpetuity.
Gifts to the Foundation, which may be made in any one of several ways, can usually be arranged to achieve maximum tax benefits for the donor, and, at the same time, provide generous support for education. Contributions may be made by gifts of cash, real or personal property, securities, or insurance policies; by a provision of a will; or by the establishment of trusts. Gifts may be granted for specific purposes or given without restriction for their use. The Foundation is incorporated under Georgia Law and is financially and organizationally separate from the college. It is classified as a 501 (c) (3) organization under the Internal Revenue Code and all gifts received are tax deductible within the IRS guidelines for deductible contributions. Gift-Pledge
